Hey. Wow! I didn't realize how much my kids are going to miss Gentry until today. You should have seen T.J. my son. He was loving on and kissing the dog like crazy. It's gonna be interesting to see how they react to the new dog. T.J. will still call him or her Gentry for a while. Cathy will miss him too. GBut we figure "out of sight, out of mind" will help her with the transition -- we hope.
If any one has suggestions as to how to help the kids through this transition, please, please, let me know.
Thanks all
Tim
Please join our family as I journey to the Seeing Eye to get a new dog and retire my bud, Gentry. It'll be a fun ride.

Giong to work
Hey all. I am going to work with Gentry today. I hope he won't hurt too much. Sarah is in Nebraska and can't keep him right now so I'll have to take him.
I can't find his peals but I'll give him them tonight when I get home.
H really wants to work so I think he'll be ok.
Talk atcha later.

Play session with Gentry
Hey all. I just had a play session with Gentry. He is so cute and acts just like a little puppy. Just causes me to reflect on what a beautiful relationship we have and I'm looking forwad to putting him in a home with people who will appriciate him.
Thanks for Michalle Drolette. I was wondering whether or not I'd get any flack for retiring him so early and since I'm a man of prayer the lord, as well as all of my friends have been telling me things will be okay and not to worry. So, I feel lots better. He's the third dog I've had to retire this early which is a little bit disconcerting. But, I'd never go to another school. Well, I'd better go for now. Hope I can generate some readers.
a mrry christmas and a happy new year.

Leading up to retirement
Hey allI just had my last vet appointment with Gentry. I just wanted the vet to varify that what I was noticing with his gate was in fact what I thought was happening. He plays like a puppy but when he works, he favors the right side. Although the authoritis is mild, The meds aren't working and he can't work very well at the end of the day.
I sometimes have second thoughts, but I know what I need to do. I'd rather retire him early and have a few years to let him be a good pet for someone than to have him work until he can't work at all and put him down after three or four months as happened with my first dog.
Kinda interesting process to go through. I'm really praying that this next dog can work longer. I reeally plan on working with the community instructor through the process should the same or similar thing happen again. I'm also afraid that the Seeing Eye will say, "what are you doing retiring this dog1" I don't thing there's anything to be afraid of. But, I'm still not sure what't gonna happen.

But, following along with me as I prepare here at home to the to Morristown NJ to get my fourth dog. Gentry, my current guide is retiring due to authoritus. With both a five-year-old and a 20.month-old, this little adventure should be lots of fun.
